We have had this vessel for about 3 years. It was obtained at a government auction in Long Beach, CA. the boat had been arrested while fishing “illegally” 200 miles west of California and had a partial load of fish - 50 tons of tuna, swordfish, other miscellaneous species.
The boat was allegedly arrested for illegal activities (unknown boundary problems, people problem, drug problem, you name it). When arrested the boat went under its own power to Long beach and the fish were promptly unloaded. The crew was arrested. Some were deported and some remain in jail – this is to the best of our understanding.
The boat was in excellent running condition when purchased and than ran up the coast to Rainier, Oregon. The main engine failed on its last start-up three months ago – the engine attempted to run away.
The vessel had the main engine replaced 1989 — it is a 1000 Negata (Japanese) diesel – 6 cylinder, turning a 6’ 4 blade prop at approximately 390 rpm via 6" jack shaft driven hydraulic transmission. Parts look to be knockoffs of Mitsubishi engines. This gives the vessel an 8-10 knot speed.
The vessel rested in Long Beach for 2 years while crew was being tried and other legal proceedings.
The boat was brought to the Columbia river under its own power in 20 – 25 ft seas — a fabulous trip. The non-stop trip took about a week. No events. There is a video of this boat trip.
